Hailing from Thornlie in Perth, WA The Southern River Band (SRB) have been building a reputation as an incredible live act since 2015.

I managed to see them in October at the Northcote Social Club. I got to the venue just before SRB appeared on stage. I had planned to be there a little earlier to catch some of the second support act and have a look at the stage lighting but best laid plans and all that.

I had watched quite a few live videos of the band on YouTube and knew that they tend to move around the stage a lot and so weren't going to be the types to hide behind their microphone stands all night. My preference, if nothing else overrides it, is to shoot bands from the left hand side of the stage. Luckily, at the Northcote, that side is also furthest from the bar and so was a bit less crowded.

One of my passions is capturing live performances with my camera. However, one of my other passions is actually watching live performances. So, I know how annoying it can be when you've spent time before your favourite band comes on staking out the perfect spot near the stage only to have a pushy photographer squeeze their way in front of you. I try not to be that guy.

There was a spot just next (slightly behind) the merch table that I could squeeze into after another photographer (seeming to be the official photographer for the band/venue?) left to go side of stage.

So, my apologies for all of the shots being from the same angle. If this had been a paid gig for the band, I would have made sure I got a wider range of angles to ensure a fuller coverage. That said, the three guitarists up front moved around enough to make sure the shots don't look too similar. The rhythm guitarist even moved left or right far enough a few times that allowed me to grab some shots of the drummer.
